2025 Advent Devotional

December 3

Read

7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”

9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

God Guides Those Who Seek Him

The birth of Jesus was such a significant event that Sages from far away lands came to seek him. I cannot read the stars but apparently these learned Astronomers knew how to find Jesus through the stars. Don’t you just wonder how this can be?  All I know is, they wanted to see Jesus and a star was born to guide them to Bethlehem.

Isn’t this so much like the Lord?  If you really want to see Him, He is always there, maybe not as a shining star but He is always there for you. Close your eyes, be still, and feel the Glory of God around you. Invite Him to walk with you today.

I know life is not always easy, but just like the Sages of old there is always someone or something that can get in your way.  You will always have your “Herod”.  No matter, God’s purposes and plans will come to pass whatever the opposition. We have a victorious God who calls to us and divinely guides and protects us all the time.

In the end, what a joy it must be to see the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!

As you seek Jesus this Christmas season, may He give you His abundant joy and peace. Merry Christmas!
