First Covenant Church of Oakland laments the existence of individual and systemic racism in our country, cities and communities. In light of the recent killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and many other precious people made in God’s image, we deplore the racism that has victimized and traumatized African Americans. As a church we affirm that Black Lives Do Matter.
Called to share the light and the love of Christ, we stand against oppression, injustice and racism. We stand in solidarity with the vulnerable, marginalized, and oppressed. We will intentionally listen to one another, engage in corporate and personal prayer, and continually ask God to help us identify and repent of our own racism and implicit bias. We will do everything in our power to ensure that FCC Oakland is a safe and healing community for everyone, especially our African American brothers and sisters. With God’s direction, we will actively demonstrate God’s love by engaging in projects and movements that promote the peace, hope, justice and gospel of our Lord Jesus in the city of Oakland, the East Bay, and the world.
