46 And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”
56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.
When you have a chance, please take a listen to the song, Joy, by Ben Rector. If you are able, try to find the version with The Choir Room.
When it finally hits Mary that she is going to give birth to Jesus, she is so overwhelmed with gratitude that she sings a song. “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant” (Luke 1:47-48). She has to stop and acknowledge who God is and who God has been. She goes on and reminds all of us how God walks with every generation every step of the way.
In this moment take time to acknowledge who God is and has been in your life. Thank him for the little things, like the sunshine and the rain and bigger things like walking with you every step of the way.
“When the rain falls when the sun shines
When the winds change in the hard times
I will stand firm I'll be alright
'Cause I got joy in my life”
