Trust

Mark 4:35-41

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

We trust the pilots who fly aircrafts. We trust the cooks who prepare food. We trust the bank tellers to take care our money. We trust the farmers to grow food. We trust the law enforcement to protect the citizens. We trust the mechanics to fix the cars. We trust the realtors to buy and sell houses. We trust the medicines to cure us. We trust the doctors to treat us. We trust the babysitters to watch over our children. The list goes on and on. How much more should we trust our precious and powerful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? In this passage we find three important truths for living each day by trustingJesus Christ, our Risen and Redeemer.

1) We can always trust His faithful promises – 35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” (Mark 4:35). Jesus meant what He said and He said what He meant. We can count on His word and have full confidence in it. The Lord Jesus already and always knows what’s going to happen along the way. He knows our frame. He sees our frustration. He understands our fear. He hears our fervent cries. Let us pause and listen as Jesus speaks peace, “33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John16:33). Remember, no matter what happens along life’s journey, you and I will surely make it through. Not because of what we have done, but because theFaithful Jesus said so.

2) We can always trust His full presence – 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” (Mark 4:36-38). From the moment we invited Jesus into our lives,He is always in our hearts, no doubt about that. Jesus cares for us. He loves us. He lives with us. He leads us. He looks after us. How can we sometimes say we are all alone? The full presence ofJesus fills our hearts with peace, contentment, and joy. Let us hear His own gentle voice still ringing in our hearts and ears, “20 lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen (Matthew 28:20). O, if we only remind ourselves of the full presence of our dear Savior Jesus, we will never be afraid of anything or anyone.

3) We can always trust His fierce power – 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”41 They were terrified and asked each other,“Who is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” There is no one able to calm the winds, the waves, and the waters like Jesus did. Whatever storms are in our lives, Jesus is able to calm them.We can says with confidence, “It is well with my soul.” Remember Jesus, the mighty God who is able to stop and save us from any storms of life. No matter what happens in your life, trust Jesus always (Psalm62:8). We can trust Jesus for our salvation, our supply, in our sickness, in our sadness, and in all of our situations, because Jesus has the power to help us and make a difference in our lives. You can put your trust in Jesus.
